On Sunday 28th July, people from around the Circuit came together to say goodbye to Deacon Jennifer Parnell and her husband Mervyn. The pair are departing in order to offer their ministerial gifts in the Sutton Park Circuit in Birmingham. We pray that they will be warmly welcomed in their new role and know that they shall be a blessing to everyone in Sutton Park.
Our Goodbye was hosted by Horley Methodist Church and began with a farewell tea at 4pm. Following the fabulous tea, with cakes provided by every church a farewell service was held at 5.30pm in the sanctuary at Horley. The fact their was barely an empty chair was a real testiment to Jenny's ministry amongst us and we were delighted that she shared some reflections from her sabbatical earlier this year. Jenny's theme was a creative Christ and she invited other members of the staff team to lead prayers and read scripture. Our musical worship was led by a wonderfully eclectic group of musicians from around the circuit and one song led by a choir gathered specifically for Jenny's leaving service. Such was the spirit of collaboration on the day that after their first song, an incredibly able young man joined the choir with no rehearsal!
Finally, the farewells were led by Superintendent Gillian Baalham, Senior Circuit Steward Helen Greaves and stewards from the local churches. Jenny was presented with many a card, flowers and a gift as a token of our appreciation.
Jenny, you are fabulous., you will be missed. May God go with you.
